As part of our stewardship, we want to offer our guests a place to truly “unplug.” Guests to Clearwater Historic Lodge will find we have limited internet guest access and no cell phone coverage, partly due to the limits of our remote area and partly by choice.
A place to unwind and “unplug”
When you visit, say goodbye to texting, emails, and social media for a while. Trade it all in for a chance to enjoy the stillness of a sunrise, the amber glow of a sunset, the sound of water gently lapping against the side of a canoe, a good conversation with family or friends, or the whirring sound of a fishing line as it is cast.
Charlie and Petra Boostrom started outfitting guests in 1915, and we’ve been helping people respect and enjoy the Gunflint Trail region ever since. For a full century, our guests have paddled, hiked, and portaged through the pristine beauty of the BWCA. Our remote location — 32 miles from Grand Marais — is one of our best assets. We are truly a place where guests can get away. As one of the original residents here, we feel our stewardship of this unique and precious natural resource.
We are aware that every modern convenience, transportation decision, and communication method comes with potential trade-offs in terms of the effect to our remote wilderness. We support the ongoing efforts to make decisions carefully about potential impacts and to do all we can to preserve our unique landscape, wildlife, and dark skies for generations to come.
